Book Kit No. 1 is Nick Admussen's
Movie Plots, a series of disorientingly
absorbing prose poems that take thirty
different film genres as points of departure
for riffs on identity, the imagination, the
meaning and coherency of life, and even
more indefinable matters. They're fascinating
and maybe just a little weird—like their
ideal readers, perhaps.

Softcore

A mid-shot of a woman reading a poem. The poem is not sure about the woman, the woman has recently been to town and retains loyalty to the matters of town. Then the afternoon illumination peaks, soft light to hard light, flood to Fresnel spot, and the poem releases itself to the woman, it discloses the failure at the heart of it, and in doing so telegraphs what it has always been trying to do. Two-shot of the woman and the poem in the afternoon sear. The woman is impassive and the poem is heaving, ravished, totally edge-of- R splayed out beneath her. Cutaway to the triumph of settled agriculture. Cutaway to a child's handmade sacrificial altar. Cutaway to novel weather drifting into town. Cutaway to the valley of the shadow of death. Cutaway to the hand in the hand that founds.
